The First Congregational Church, as member of the United Church of Christ and coming from the Reformed tradition, recognizes two sacraments, Communion and Baptism. We share in the communion meal once a month during Sunday morning worship. Communion is also served on Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. Everyone is welcome to participate in communion, no matter their age or member status.
Communion is received while seated in the pews to symbolize that no one can be denied communion in the United Church of Christ. We eat the bread upon receiving it to acknowledge our individuality before God. We wait to share in drinking the cup until all have been served the grape juice as a reminder that we are one in Jesus Christ.
